Literature Text

Full many a glorious hedgehog have I seen
Flatten on tarmac-tops with glazed-over eye,
Kissing with bloody face the roadway scene,
Gilding pale streets with heavenly spikery;
Anon permit the basest bikes to ride
With ugly wheel on his celestial face,
And from the forlorn path his visage hide,
Stealing unseen to death from this disgrace:
Even so my light one early morn did shine
With all-triumphant splendour on a hog;
But, out the back, he was but one hour mine,
The speeding car hath squished him like a frog.
  Yet him for this my hedgehog not disdaineth;
  Hogs of the world may stain where heaven's
      truck reigneth.
Apologies to Shakespeare.
